Horseback Trail Guides needed for a tourism trail ride operation located in Simpsonville, KY. This is a seasonal position (April - Nov) with lots of full time or part time flexibility. We offer two shifts

per day, Wed - Sun, 7 am -12:30 pm and 12:30 pm -7 pm.

You MUST be an experienced rider (English or Western) who has current riding experience and confident horsemanship skills. You must be able to: walk, trot and canter with a balanced seat, be able to ground-mount, pony other horses, and handle general horse herd idiosyncrasies (under saddle and on the ground) - all while leading a group of inexperienced riders while turned facing your adoring crowd!

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: Starting at $14.00 per hour plus tips

REQUIREMENTS

You must meet all of the following requirements:

  • You MUST be an intermediate/advanced rider with at least two years of recent
    trail riding experience.

  • Be able to co-lead groups 4-10 on 1 hour trail rides with varying terrain.

  • Be confident enough to ride and instruct at the same time.

  •  Be able turn around easily and face your customers while guiding your own horse.

  • Be able to ground mount any size horse without assistance.

  • Be able pony another horse with or without a rider.

  • Have customer service experience or aptitude.

  • Know how to: tie a slip knot, properly brush and pick feet, know how to
    tack up and how to put together
    (or take apart) each element of your tack.

  • Have basic horse health knowledge and know how to identify lameness,
    colic, thrush, rain rot, dehydration etc.

  • You must be 18 or older and able to drive yourself to and from the barn.

  • You must be very safety oriented and observant of both people and horses.

    DUTIES:

  • Catch the trail horses from the fields, brush and a tack up.

  • Greet customers, sign waivers and get helmets fitted.

  • Adjust tack, mount, safety check each customer and provide a short introductory lesson.

  • Co-lead 1 hour rides either riding as the lead or tail.

  • Ensure the safety and comfort level of the customers by engaging them in
    conversation and keeping a watchful eye on the group.

  • Untack clean, wash and turn out the trail horses.

    TERMS:

  • Flexible schedule! We offer 4 rides per day Wednesday through Sunday.

  • This is an Independent Contractor position. You must be 18 or older.

  • Pay is hourly plus tips.

  • 6-8 hour shifts, part-time and full-time opportunities depending on availability and experience.

  • Tips are encouraged and generally given.

Do you love to share your knowledge and passion of horsemanship and riding? Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to create a community of well-rounded riders you can be proud of? 

We are currently looking for an Eventing-focused instructor to add to our team. This instructor would take the lead in teaching our current students (and new) the foundations of Dressage, cross-country and stadium. 

What’s more? We have a newly built cross-country course

(baby starter - novice) that you will be the first to take advantage of! You will be teaching lessons to beginners (some intermediate)

both kids and adult amateurs.

​Red Fern Riding Center is independently owned and operated and is located at Shelby Trails Horse Park - a 465 acre public equestrian park in Simpsonville, KY. We have 25 miles of trails, a newly built cross-country course and both indoor and outdoor arenas.​

 

This is an independent contractor position with a commission split. Our new instructor will have the support and infrastructure of an established riding center. We also provide  lesson horses, marketing and publicity support and a few clients to start your foundation. ​​

 

You must have weekend availability (Saturday and Sunday) and some weekday availability, both in the evenings while school is in, and during the day in the Summer. This is an opportunity that can easily become a full time job (especially with starting in the Spring) or a part time position that complements our other instructor.

REQUIREMENTS
 

  • be safety-focused and detail oriented

  • have above average communication skills

  • want to be a part of a supportive and family-like work environment

  • be able to communicate with existing clients to book ongoing lessons and help build their own book of incoming students
     

Responsibilities include:

  • giving riding lessons and instruction

  • teaching proper horse care, safe handling and safe riding practices

  • ensuring facilities and equipment are maintained in proper condition

  • assisting in the care of horses as needed

  • noticing injuries/lost shoes then notifying management

  • in general, maintaining the cleanliness of the barn, aisles, and facility and
    health and safety of the horses

  • Training and/or overseeing our working student(s)
     

Qualifications include:

  • valid Driver’s license

  • at least 10 years of equine experience in Dressage, Show Jumping, Hunter/Jumper
    or a combination of those disciplines

  • demonstrable skill in horseback riding

  • must be at least 18 years of age and have the ability to perform manual labor for extended
    periods of time; lift or exert force on items with varying weights; dress according to uniform policy requirements; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates,
    supervisors and clients is required

  • previous riding instruction experience is preferred

This position works various shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and some holidays.
You will have a large amount of control over your schedule and the days and hours you work.

Compensation: You will receive a commission per lesson.
You will be employed as an independent contractor and will receive a 1099
